Delicious marzipan treats

These are just to get the party started. These are really simple treats that technically only require assembly.

You need:
  • 1 lb good quality marzipan
  • 1/2 lb nougat
  • dark chocolate
  • white chocolate
  • zest from one orange
The amount of marzipan and nougat may easily be altered, and it'll taste great no matter what.

Start by dividing the marzipan in two halves and using a rolling pin to make them into two as equal parts as you can. A tip: using flour instead of powdered sugar when rolling out the marzipan makes it less sticky and much easier to work with.

Melt the nougat in a water bath.
Use a brush to remove leftover flour from the marzipan.

Spread the nougat over one half of the marzipan.

Then place the other half of the marzipan on top.
Melt dark chocolate in a water bath, and use a brush to spread it out on top of the marzipan.

Wait until it dries completely, then turn it over carefully and add melted white chocolate to the other side. Sprinkle orange zest over the chocolate, and wait for it to dry. Usually when making the orange zest I don't remember to do it until just before I need it, so in order to make it dry and easy to sprinkle, use some kitchen towel and apply pressure a few times to remove the juice.

Once dry, cut up in mouthful sized pieces. I usually opt for little triangles.

On the plate there you can see the pieces that were cut off along the edges. These are of course vital for the sample tasting. These little treats are perfect as a small gift for the host of any party. Just put them in a jar or some cellophane paper and add a bow.

There you go. The epicurean quest is hereby underway. I look forward to a large number of exciting recipes from all over the world!

Enjoy!
